Refugee Immigrant Self-Empowerment (RISE) | Youth Women’s Empowerment
“The mission of Refugee and Immigrant Self- Empowerment (RISE) is to advocate and promote self-sufficiency through employment, education, social support and economic independence for members of the refugee and immigrant communities in Onondaga County, NY.”
Youth Women’s Empowerment Program
The program teaches young women the skills needed to acquire and retain jobs, earn promotions, assume leadership positions in community organizations, and advocate on behalf of other refugees like themselves. Many of the young women in the program are motivated to finish high school and earn college degrees as well as aspire to professional careers previously unavailable to them, like those in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
As a volunteer consultant for RISE, I customize curriculum for the Young Women’s Empowerment Program and mentor school-aged girls on a weekly basis in addition to organizing a “Collegiate Education Preparation” panel for the annual Youth Women’s Empowerment Conference.
